Unorthodox, Korean Hip-Hop, singer and songwriter Psy released "Gangnam Style" which was released and uploaded on YouTube on July 24th 2012; causing an internet viral sensation that has both launched him into stardom across the globe; all within five months of his Gangnam Style music video YouTube Upload, and now the video has gone on to be the most downloaded video in YouTube history with over 850,000,000+ views.
Psy is definitely our most contentious extraordinary person we celebrate to date. He caused trouble at school, dropped out of university to pursue music, was fined for inappropriate lyrics on his debuted album, dodged the South Korean National Military Draft before being caught and redrafted, however what makes Psy so extraordinary is his continued passion for his music and his tongue in cheek viral video sensation he has launched with his Gangnam Style music video.
Today not only is Psy the record holder of the most downloaded video in YouTube's history, along with the fastest; he has also been appointed the United Nations Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) by Ban Ki-Moon UN Secretary. As well as swag of awards and accolades from music award events all over the world, celebrating his success in bringing K-Pop into global mainstream acceptance.
The road to success has not been an easy one for Psy. His recent popularity has taken over twelve years and six album releases in the making. Throughout this time Psy has face both public back lash and laughter at; by the wider Korean public, because of both his looks and dance style, as well as financial struggles along the way. However as a true extraordinary persons do, he pushed on and we are here today to celebrate and bring you more about the man called Psy and his "Gangnam Style" global success.
Psy's passion for his music, his ability to turn a catchy, tongue in cheek, four hour video shoot then upload it himself on to YouTube the next day then for his video to be more than a Korean music success and into an international global phenomena that we know today; his lesson to us all is to keep going and never give up pursuing whatever it is that we are most passionate about. By doing simply that "your dreams can come true" as with Psy and his Gangnam Style!
Quotes:
I didn't make it, people made it happen.
I'm just an artist.
Dreams do come true.
I never expect things like this.
Psy's short for Psycho.
Gangnam is like Beverly Hills in Korea. Dance doesn't look like Beverly Hills, music doesn't sound like Beverly Hills, and music video all the situations doesn't look like Beverly Hills, but he keeps saying I'm Beverly Hills!!!! So that's the point, it's sort of a twist.
